Looking Back: 2019 NBA Draft

Last Night was the 2019 NBA Draft. There were a lot of surprises and as a Sixers fan this was an absolutely horrible draft. Other than that it was a pretty good draft. Here are the winners and losers of the draft and what I rate each team’s draft class.

One of the biggest surprises throughout the draft was when about an hour before the draft the Pelicans traded their #4 pick to the Hawks for The #8,#17, and #35 picks. I don’t understand why though. They had Deandre Hunter, but they traded down to get Jaxon Hayes. They did need a center, but Bol Bol would’ve still been on the board at 17.

The Celtics definitely won their pick snatching Romeo Langford at fourteen. Langford is a top ten (maybe even a top five) talent. Injuries made him drop to 14th to Boston. What a steal. They also got Tennessee star Grant Williams at 22, another steal.

Now back to what I was saying about being a Sixers fan. My Sixers drafted Ty Jerome,Carsen Edwards, and Admiral Schofield. What’s the problem with that you might ask. They traded all three, Edwards to Boston, Jerome to Phoenix, and Schofield to Washington.

Now I’ll grade draft classes for each team. The levels to rate the draft classes are good, solid, and garbage.

Starting off with the Hawks I’ll rate them good drafting two top ten players along with Bruno Fernando. The two top ten picks were Deandre Hunter and Cameron Reddish. For the Nets they drafted Nic Claxton and Jaylen Hands. Both of them were second round picks, but they weren’t lower level second round picks, so I’ll rate them solid.

Next up is the Celtics with Romeo Langford, Grant Williams, Carsen Edwards, and Tremont Waters. That’s great so I’m rating them good. They have a top 10 talent in Langford, a great shooter and scorer in Edwards, ACC player of the year in Grant Williams, and a solid guy in Waters. Their draft class is stacked.

The Hornets weren’t too impressive only drafting PJ Washington. They also got Cody Martin and Jalen McDaniels. PJ stands for something so I’ll rate them solid.

There isn’t much to say about the Bulls, they got Coby White and Daniel Gafford. I rate that solid for getting a nice guard in Coby White.

Next is the Cavaliers drafting Darius Garland, Dylan Windler, and Kevin Porter Jr. That’s border line good, but I’ll rate it solid.

After that is the Nuggets ending up with Bol Bol as a backup to Jokic. That is good to me because Bol Bol is pretty good as a backup,

The next team to grade is the Pistons with Sekou Doumbouya, Deividas Sevidas, Isaiah Roby, and Jaylen Hands. Doumbouya is the star of that class, but the other three are solid players with potential so the overall grade is good.

Next up is the Warriors with Jordan Poole, Alen Smailagic, and Eric Paschall. They are all decent players, but Poole and Paschall have talent so that was a solid class.

The Pacers are next with Goga Bitadze. Garbage, they took an under the radar draftee with the eighteenth pick. Who knows, Bitadze could be the next Porzingis.

Now it’s time to grade the Clippers who drafted Mfiondu Kabenge. I would say garbage, but Mfiondu could be a stellar rim protector and inside scorer.

The Lakers had a bad pick and got Talen Horton-Tucker out of it. All I’m saying is that is trash, so I’ll rate it garbage.

Next is a draft class that I liked. The Grizzlies with my favorite player in the draft, Ja Morant and Brandon Clarke. This sets up a bright feature with a big three of Ja, Clarke, and Jaren Jackson Jr. A young big three that is.

The next to grade is the class of the Miami Heat. They drafted knockdown shooter Tye Herro and KZ Okapola. If you ask me that deserves good for a rating.

Next is the Timberwolves with Jarrett Culver and Jaylen Nowell. Just because Culver is a stud I rate that good.

Now it’s time to grade the Draft Lottery winners, the New Orleans Pelicans. They drafted Zion Williamson, Jaxon Hayes, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Marcos Louzada Silva. They got Zion that should be enough, but no. On top of that they got Alexander-Walker and Hayes. Obviously I’ll rate that good.

It is now time to grade the New York Knicks. They selected RJ Barrett and Ignas Bradneikis as their two picks. That is good because they drafted a star in RJ Barrett.

The next team to grade is the Oklahoma City Thunder. They drafted Darius Bazely who is strongly associated with New Balance, the sponsor of my basketball team. I think I’ll rate this a solid.

Next I’m grading the draft class of the Orlando Magic. They drafted Chuma Okeke from Auburn. He was picked pretty early, but this was their guy and it was their only pick. I rate this pick a solid.

Now it is time to grade my favorite team, the Philadelphia 76ers. I said earlier they drafted three studs and traded all three. This is what they got in return, Matisse Thybulle and Marial Shayok. I’ll rate this solid because I’m being biased and Thybulle is a lockdown defender and can be a flashy finisher.

Next up is the Suns with Cameron Johnson and Ty Jerome. That gets a good rating because both of them are talented players.

Next to rate is the Blazers. They picked Nasir Little, to me that is good. I say this because personally I’m a Nasir Little fan. I think he dropped a bit.

The next few teams that I’m grading are the last few. First is the Spurs with Luka Samonic, Keldon Johnson, and Quinndery Weatherspoon. I rate this solid for picking Keldon Johnson.

Next is the Kings with Justin James, Kyle Guy, and Vanja Marinkovic, That is solid, my favorite player from that class is Kyle Guy.

Now we are grading the Raptors. Garbage, anyone else know who Dewan Hernandez is? Garbage.

Anyway next is the Jazz Jarell Brantley, Justin Wright-Foreman, and Miye Oni. Ewww, what’s that smell, GARBAGE!

Finally is the Wizards with Rui Hachimaura and Admiral Schofield. Luckily we get to end this with a good.

Hope you enjoyed see you next time can this post get us to one thousand views.
