Who Is the G.O.A.T.

This article will be filled with stats so have your notebooks open! I am going to give you statistics that will help you decide who is the G.O.A.T (Greatest of all Time) between LeBron James and Michael Jordan! First, I’m going to go over their points per game average throughout their careers.

So far in LeBron’s career he has averaged 27.2 PPG! You think that’s a lot? MJ averaged 30.1 that is about as much as Russel Westbrook averaged during his MVP season, but MJ did that through out his career. So, there MJ is better.
Now, in rebounds you would thing LBJ takes that in a landslide because LeBron is six foot eight while MJ is two inches shorter. But it’s only LBJ 7.4 to MJ 6.2, but LeBron still wins.

In assist King James averaged 7.2 (I thought higher) and Jump man averaged 5.3 but no surprise here LeBron is obviously a better passer than Jordan.

In three-point percentage they both weren’t known for downtown shots, but they were known for clutch 3’s. For example, LeBron came in through the clutch hitting a go-ahead triple in game five against the Indiana Pacers (4/25/18). An example for MJ is the 1997 flu game (versus the Utah Jazz) where he knocked down a trey to win game five! But that’s only their clutch 3’s! Michael’s three-point percentage is 32.7 while LeBron’s is 34.4.

Both could make free throws, but one wasn’t always consistent that would be LeBron James (4/6/18 versus 76ers) with an average of 73.9 while Jordan could make them all the time with an average of 83.5!

In this category (FG%) Michael Jordan took a lot more shots than LeBron, so you might expect MJ to have a better percentage but LBJ’s is better at 50.4 while Jordan is at 49.7!
Both LeBron James and Michael Jordan were very good defensive players so let’s compare their steals and blocks! Throughout MJ’s career he would always pick people’s pockets which led him to average a good 2.4 steals per game towering LeBron’s 1.6. In blocks these two were just robot like with the way they use to just chase people down from behind which gave MJ .83 blocks and LeBron .80!

Now let’s talk about personal achievements! The king once publicly stated that he could only compare himself to greats through MVP awards and Championships so let’s obey King James. In MVP awards LeBron won four (2009,2010,2012, and 2013) while Michael won five (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, and 1998). Now championship wise MJ doubles LeBron with six (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998) while LBJ had three (2012,2013, and 2016).

So, total their stats are even and all over I think LeBron is the G.O.A.T! Did I miss anything? Leave a comment below!

  1. I’d give the knod to Jordan but LBJ is a very close second. If LeBron continues his level of play for the next couple of seasons, he’ll become the all time scoring leader. It will be hard not to pass the torch at that point; we shall see. Good article Chief.

  2. A few more years of playing at the same level. I’m not sure he’ll get another chip, as Golden State is loaded.
